It can be hard to get enough vitamin D in our daily lives, especially when the majority of us work inside all day, in office buildings or at home. Thankfully, though, if you make your vitamin D intake a priority, you shouldn't have a problem getting the recommended amount to help your body function at its best.
Your body's main source of vitamin D is sunlight. Sometimes when you test low for vitamin D in a blood test, your doctor might prescribe vitamin D supplements. This is because vitamin D is essential for our overall health, and being deficient in it is never a good thing.
Why Vitamin D Is Important
Vitamin D is important for a few key reasons.
In the body, activated vitamin D increases your body's ability to absorb calcium. This, in turn, helps your body effectively contract your muscles, since calcium is essential for proper muscle function. Additionally, vitamin D is a main player in your immune system and brain function.
You may notice during the winter months when you don't get outside as much, you feel tired, and you may feel depressed. These are very common symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
This should be a huge indicator of just how important vitamin D is. It has an affect on your mood every single day of your life.
How To Get Enough Vitamin D At Work

Studies show that just 10-15 minutes of sun exposure a day will give you all the vitamin D you need.
So, grab a co-worker, get outside, and go for a walk. You can just sit outside if you don't want to walk. Or, you can kill two birds with one stone and get in some activity and absorb some sunlight together.
Vitamin D affects our overall mood, productivity, and body function. Make it a priority to get enough vitamin D during your busy workweek to be the best person (and employee) you can be!
