How Do I Sell Myself Without Sounding Desperate?

Dear Experts, I am now looking for a job after one year off to take my state's bar and spend time with my two children under two. I was laid off from my previous employer. I am open to almost any type of law as long as it is in my town. I have yet to find a tactful way of saying this without seeming desperate.
