Wendy Knight
Wendy Knight is a business leader who works at the intersections of strategy, transformation, and risk management/insurance, to drive growth and stakeholder value. She has deep expertise in healthcare, agriculture, financial institutions, and insurance, with strengths in developing processes to improve performance in complex, highly regulated environments.
Most recently, Wendy was Chief Executive Officer of Healthcare Providers Insurance Company (HPIC), a hospital member-owned, reciprocal insurance company with over $79M in assets and $47M in policyholder surplus. Prior to HPIC, Wendy served as Vice President, Corporate Insurance Operations at Novant Health, a large not-for-profit integrated health system located throughout the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia. During her tenure at Novant, she was responsible for the financial and regulatory aspects of Novant's captive and risk retention group insurers, as well as external insurance negotiations, working closely with legal, clinical, operations, and IT to ensure risk issues were addressed on a unified basis. Her portfolio of contributions includes elimination of offshore expenses, improved technology workflows, insurance program cost reduction, and improved malpractice insurance credentialing.
Before joining Novant, Wendy was Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance Services with Southern States Cooperative, in Richmond, Virginia, where she oversaw all risk management, environmental compliance, safety, security, fleet transportation, compliance, insurance placements and owned insurance company operations. Prior to Southern States, Wendy held various key positions at the world's largest insurance brokers and insurers. She has served on various boards of directors including Winston Salem State University Foundation; North Carolina Captive Insurance Association; NC ASHRM, and various internal insurance boards of directors.
Wendy earned her Master of Health Administration from UNC Chapel Hill and a BA in English Literature from Duke University. Wendy is an aggregator of knowledge who loves to share it with others and artfully weave it into her leadership. In her spare time, Wendy enjoys rescuing and adopting senior dogs, road cycling, singing and golf.
